Hi, I'm David Shipley and this is my site.

In my life I've sold fork lift trucks, worked in corporate finance, produced a film and committed a fraud. During my sentence I was horrified by the prison system I saw. I write about that, and other things. I also lecture on prison, work as a prison inspector and do the occasional media appearance. You can find my some of my work here.

Please do get in touch if you would like to know more.

A Man’s Got Needs, a piece of creative nonfiction I wrote about my time in HMP Wandsworth, has been published by the Mechanics Institute Review.

I was pleased to contribute to Inside Time about my work as a prison inspector and contribute a piece about the importance of ‘lived experience’ in the inspection process - to help make lives liveable inside.
