Prison Reform Work

My time in prison taught me that the system is broken. It traumatises and harms people and it seems almost designed to maximise reoffending. I do what I can to make a difference.

Prison Inspecting

During 2022 I have worked as a consultant for HM Inspectorate of Prisons and Probation.

  • Inspections of prisons and probation

  • Meetings with prisoners and former prisoners to understand their experience of the system

  • Writing and contributing to reports

  • Highlighting and investigating safeguarding issues

Mentoring

I mentor current and former prisoners by providing:

·         Education support and coaching

·         Emotional support

·         Prison to freedom support

·         Employment, entrepreneurship & networking advice

Lecturing

I give talks and lectures on prison and the wider criminal justice system.

In recent months I’ve spoken at Keble College, Oxford’s Howard League Conference, University of Leicester’s Law School and York St. John university.

Topics include ‘Prison: Myths and Realities’, ‘Prison Is As Strange As War’ and explorations of Healthcare, Safeguarding, Mental Health, Neurodivergence, Education and Employment within the prison system.

Get in touch

I always welcome invitations by individuals and institutions to get involved in their prison reform projects, be that through writing articles, lecturing or in advisory roles.
